To all my American friends who have cell phones and home phones:
In a few weeks, cell phone numbers are being released to telemarketing companies and you will start to receive sale calls.
You will be charged for these calls.
They will be annoying and distracting.
They will drive you crazy.
Unless - you don't ever have someone who phones you and then in that case, you might want the calls that come from telemarketers, :)
If you are interested in having your number (home or cell) placed on the National Registry Do Not Call List, you can call 888-382-1222 from the phone that carries the number you want placed on the list.
-OR-
You may visit www.donotcall.gov and go through an online registration process to take care of having your name placed on the list for 5 years.
If anyone does call you, and your number is on the registered list, then you may file a complaint against that organization at the same website.
If you register online, there are a series of emails that you will receive, each containing a link that you will have to click on to complete the process. I think you have to do it on 3 separate emails for each number. (well worth it to me)
I've registered, I hope you will too. It only takes a minute of your time and it blocks your number for 5 years.
Please pass this on to everyone you know who doesn't want to be hassled.
Thank you so much for the link - this was on my to do list today since the calls are incessant at the new house!

Really? You get charged for calls that other people make? Here it is the person that calls the cellphone that is charged.
I'm so glad we get very very few telemarketers in New Zealand!
