In a recent post over at my MW friend's blog, I saw this:
"We are not selfishly keeping women from an epidural or having a hospital birth. We are providing an option - a LEGAL option - to women who are disgusted with a system that views birth as a series of medical crisises that must be controlled at every turn."
Isn't it ironic that several (perhaps 4 or 5 to be fair and accurate) of the nurses and obstetricians that I've worked with in my capacity as a doula over the last 19 years have openly admitted to drugging women/pushing epidural/cutting babies out of their mothers on more than one occasion for their own convenience sake? One that comes to mind bragged about how he "saved women from the horrors of labor and just cut 'em open" so he could go home. Some people think I make this shit up. Sadly, I'm not.
And then we have people from the medical profession involved in obstetrics who say that those of us who promote homebirth (where there are no drugs and a much less occurance of interventions) are being selfish and trying to force our own agenda on other pregnant women.
Yep, I'm selfish alright.
Looks like I am not alone.
